Biorthogonal bases.

efinition

(Biorthogonality) The collection of functions MATH is "biorthogonal" to the collection MATH iff MATH where the MATH is inner product defined by context ( $L^{2}$ -inner product for applications of this section).

Proposition

(Linear independence from biorthogonality) Let MATH be a collection of functions. If there is a biorthogonal collection MATH then MATH are linearly independent.

Proof

Assume existence of numbers MATH such that MATH Apply MATH for every $p$ : MATH
